Flood at Lono Building
forces temporary moves for tenants
KAHULUI – Five
tenants of the Lono Building at 95
Lono Ave. are in temporary quarters
while their landlord, A&B
Properties, cleans up an interior
flood.
The five are
expected to be able to return around
April 4, but in the meantime they
have been relocated to nearby
buildings and undamaged portions of
the building.
“During the night of February 24, our
security personnel discovered water coming
out of entrance doors of Lono Building,”
said David Haverly, vice president of A&B
Properties. “The leak was stopped by early
morning.”
The building, at the corner of Lono and
Kamehameha avenues, was dried out, but
within a few days it was determined that
water had infiltrated the drywall.
“In order to ensure a thorough and proper
cleanup, several of the ground-floor tenants
had to be relocated,” and some were unable
to open for business for a time, he said.
The temporary homes for the affected
businesses are:
Ohana
Hearing Care, Kahului Office Building, Suite
295.
GSA-USGS,
Lono Building, Suite 202 (upstairs in the
flooded building).
Anne
Spencer, Kahului Office Building, Suite 230.
Operating
Engineers Local 3, Kahului Shopping Center,
Suite 3-B.
Dr.
Michael Dickens, Kahului Shopping Center,
Suite 3-D.
A sixth tenant, the Coast Guard, had less
damage, which will be repaired in April. At
that time, the Coast Guard will have to move
out for a time.
The repair and remediation work includes
removing the damaged tenant furnishings,
carpet and drywall. An environmental
specialist was brought in to ensure that any
asbestos or, possibly, mold is removed
properly.
Traces of asbestos were found.
“We’re working with tenants and our
insurance carriers to address the costs and
predict that tenants will not be
significantly impacted by costs related to
this incident,” Haverly said. |
