LOCAL 18 MEMBERS' VOICE DO believe that every union should be thoroughly democratic in its own internal life.
EACH member needs to be willing to work to eradicate the notion that union members do little and know nothing while earning a wage they don't deserve. MEMBERS who want to be a part of governing Local 18 through attendance at union meetings, voicing his or her opinions, or just advocating for our union in public. OFFER to put personal differences aside, work toward achieving a union that welcomes constructive criticism, reaches out to disenfranchised members, respects members right to a difference of opinion COMMIT to u nderstand the guidelines set forth in the Labor-Management Reporting/Disclosure Act of 1959, believing that it's not enough for officers of Local 18 to comply, they must exceed them. RESPECT a member's right to responsible internal criticism of Local 18. Such criticism promotes unity in action by increasing the membership's understanding of the issues. ADVOCATE need for a free press available to Local 18 members to provide a forum for thoughtful discussion of issues confronting Local 18. COURAGE to strive to make sure that the officers and employees of Local 18 never put the interests of any individual or group above the democratic rights of another Local 18 member. YOU are the Union ! United We Stand!
