FRINGE BENEFIT PACKAGE AS OF 5/1/05

By

Pat Kohl

Candidate for President of Local 18

I HAD THE RIGHT TO REMAIN SILENT... BUT... I DIDN'T HAVE THE ABILITY!

Total Package $8.80

H&W (Insurance which includes .25 diverted to your MRA)....................$5.31

Pension.......................................................................................................3.00

Apprenticeship............................................................................................0.45

E&S (Scholarship).......................................................................................0.04

As of May 1, 2005 , .20 of the $1.10 raise we got went to H&W. If you recall they took the entire raise last year but since this is an election year, they gave us .90 on our checks... bet that changes next year along with many more changes that would never happen in an election year! I also heard rumors of a 13 th check for our retirees, which they deserve. That only happens in election years to buy votes! I feel confident that our retirees can see thru that as they did the last time.

As for the .20 which went to H&W, I really think it was needed to help pay for Ray Orrand's SECOND $52,785+ GMC Yukon XL Denali, complete with 4 wheel drive and towing package (is that to tow the Harleys to Daytona?). It was approved by the Trustees (at least the Union Trustees) of the Health & Welfare and Pension Plans! I asked about this at the Executive Board Meeting in April and was told by Pat Sink that it was needed to drive to Cleveland and Chicago and Ray was always under his budget of 1% (of how many billion?) and he (Pat Sink) does not micro-manage! Wonder how all those Cadillacs and Buicks make it up and down the roads? We won't even talk about the cost of gas! As long as they increase Ray's budget, maybe driving conditions will worsen and Ray will need a Hummer!

Then there is the Apprenticeship portion of .45 an hour that is based on man hours of contributions and amounts to well over $5,000,000 a year of your money. Soon I will tell you how some of that is spent!

Finally there is the pension contribution of $3 an hour that remains the same as it has been since May of 2000. Do they ever ask us if we would like a quarter diverted to our pension? NO, they sure don't! Isn't it time for an increase?
